Houseplant Pests

Aphids

Aphids are small, soft-bodied, pear-shaped insects about 1/16 inch long, in green, black, or orange. They cluster on new growth, sucking sap and causing distortion. Use insecticidal soap or ladybugs.

Fungus Gnats

Fungus gnats are small, 1/8-inch flies with dark bodies, long legs, and long antennae. Larvae in the soil harm roots. Overwatering attracts them; let the soil dry and use sticky traps.

Vine Weevils

Vine weevils are 1/3 inch beetles, black with yellow spots, and snout-nosed. Larvae eat roots, causing wilting. Use nematodes for soil treatment.
